No May 13, No "Ketuanan Melayu" (revisited)

[From an email I posted on the Artisproactiv forum on 14 October 2004. It was subsequently published in this blog on 30 September 2008, but I feel it's worth reprising one more time to mark the 50th anniversary of 13 May 1969]

Those in power will do ANYTHING it takes to remain in power. This is a basic Machiavellian truism. Exceptions to the rule occur, of course, but all too rarely. It takes a Prince Siddhartha to turn one's back on the false and treacherous allure of earthly power and embark on a personal quest for truth and enlightenment.

Or perhaps a prince like Tunku Abdul Rahman who resigned a sad and broken man after May 13 rather than battle those within Umno who wanted him out.

Shortly before his death, the Tunku confided - in a series of intimate interviews with K. Das, former bureau chief of the Far Eastern Economic Review, who was working on the Tunku's official biography - that what happened on May 13, 1969, was really the implementation of a contingency plan to prevent the political opposition (in this instance the DAP and PAS) from forming a parliamentary majority after the 1969 general election. The Tengku actually named FIVE individuals who were the key conspirators.*

Strategies had been laid long before the general election to spark off "racial riots" - in the event of a poor showing for the ruling party in the polls - that would precipitate the declaration of a state of national emergency (temporary martial law and the hasty formation of the National Operations Council) - and the nullification of the 1969 election results. The loss of a few hundred lives was deemed a necessary sacrifice to ensure Umno's continued dominance and the political survival of the Alliance (now the Barisan Nasional).

The plan obviously worked. By declaring it a "sensitive" issue, the May 13 plot effectively acquired the status of a national taboo, thereby protecting its perpetrators from a royal commission of inquiry and charges of criminal treason. 35 years down the line, not one of the five key conspirators has ever been exposed and charged with complicity in this deadly and repugnant sandiwara.

This sort of strategem is actually standard practice - and since "winners" rewrite history as they please - it often takes ages before such skeletons are excavated from the dusty remains of political cupboards, centuries later.

Take the infamous Gulf of Tonkin "incident" which led directly to America's invasion of Vietnam... or the JFK assassination of November 22, 1963: the whole thing is still shrouded in mystery and much discussed amongst "conspiracy theorists." Despite the Freedom of Information Act in America, and a slew of well-researched books on the subject, the general public still unthinkingly accepts that JFK's assassin was Lee Harvey Oswald. Same thing with RFK (Robert F. Kennedy) and MLK (Martin Luther King).

Then there was the story (planted by PR firm Hill & Knowlton) about Saddam Hussein's troops snatching infants from their incubators in Kuwait, which swung public opinion in favor of Emperor Bush I's 1991 Operation Desert Storm. And now we have September 11, 2001 as America's very own "May 13."

Race riots, my foot. May 13 was really just "Plan B": a carefully orchestrated mengamuk.

Yup, it's Chicken Run all over!

* One of the five May 13 conspirators is still alive and plotting - and among the others, some of their offspring are still active in politics. So I won't name any of them without proper legal backing or documentary evidence. However, I can drop a heavy hint: two of them subsequently became prime ministers. How did I come by this info? I collaborated with K. Das in 1986 on a book of political quotes and we had a few good conversations over the years.

Vernon Emuang forwarded this Malaysiakini essay by Sim Kwang Yang:

It would seem to be a clear case of sedition when a political butterfly dressed up in hornet's armour tried to revive the ghost of May 13 in the recent Umno general assembly, to the thunderous applause of all those present.

Speeches during Umno general assemblies are more likely to be carefully orchestrated representations of their mainstream thinking, rather than the spontaneous cut and thrust of creative ideas. So we - who are excluded from the inner sanctum of Umno faithful - have to assume that their perennial call to arms is an integral part of Umno ideology. After all, May 13 was the cornerstone upon which the grand superstructure of the NEP had been erected for the past 35 years.

The last remaining conspirator will die a painful and slow death. The souls of the thousands who died as a result of his evil plot are lingering on waiting for him to die in order to claim his soul before they can rest in peace. He will therefore have to die a thousand death and his restless soul will then linger on for the next 1000 years. That may be his karma.

Its a dark moment in our history. for whatever it is, let it remind us to united. No one race will benefits anything for it. for whatever each and of us have, regardless of our race.. Its still a plenty by any measurement. Cherish our peace and common understanding that we have now. Like they say, No one malay is bigger than a chinese, and neither one chinese any bigger that a malay. so as it will apply to an indian, iban, kandazan or what not

At last, a reliable source that is about as close as we can expect to get to the horse's mouth.

Thank you, Antares.

It is so obvious the last surviving consiprator is Mahatir Mohamed.

Won't be difficult to guess that the others were: rabble rouser (as described by LKY) Syed Jafar Albar, Harun Idris. Abdul Razak and . . . . but just cant remember the other damned dead fart's name.

TBR News – May 10, 2009

“As much as I dislike coping with the incredible glut of conspiracy theories I have to review on a daily basis, I saw a report early this morning that I felt I had to pass on to the public, such as it is. I cannot just scan it in because it is classified with a very limited COSMIC readership but I can, and have, copied out salient parts of it and, after suitable rewriting, I am sending it out.

There is now an on-going mini-epidemic of a form of swine flu sweeping the world but I can see almost nothing about how, or where, it really started.

Of course, it started in Mexico, probably Mexico City, and was deliberately sat on by the Mexican government because it coincided with the American spring break and the Mexicans did not want to warn off the enormous army of American teenagers who pour into that benighted country every year, flush with nice money.

By delaying official notice of the disease, they allowed it to spread all over the world but that is not the issue. After all, what can you expect from a country whose national bird is the fly?

It seems that an Israeli pharmaceutical company, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, one of the world’s largest with 28,000 employees located in 50 countries, bought out one Ivax Corporation that had labs in Mexico City. Teva has been working on finding vaccines and medicines for a host of different human ailments and took over the work of Ivax which also produced medicines and vaccines for human consumption but also did extensive experimental work in the veterinarian field.

It seems that sometime in late March of this year, one of the human test subjects for Teva developed a form of swine/bird flu that was not responsive to medical treatment but company officials in charge of the program (the development of a vaccine for several different forms of swine/bird flu) were unaware of this and allowed the test subject to leave their facilities and go into the public. When the test subject died, it took two weeks for the company to find out about this and as the infection was now spreading, instead of speaking out, they quickly burn reams of test documents and destroyed the records of their test subject.

The CDC has learned that the type of swine/bird flu involved here “has the potential of causing a pandemic” that could “easily have the same global effect as the 1918 influenza” epidemic that killed 30-50 millions of people world wide and did terrible damage to the global economy.

It is obvious that this was a deplorable accident but by trying to cover it up, the potential damage could be beyond our belief. Neither the Mexican authorities or the pharmaceutical company will admit to any of this and, like the missing billions of Bernie Madoff, no one in authority in the United States, Mexico or Israel will address it, hoping that the flu now creeping across the planet will not prove to be pandemic or deadly.

What can be done about this tragedy of errors? Nothing at all. However, unlike a major earthquake, this is not an act of God but an act of man.”

Hi Antares

Here are some political slogans for future campaigns:

1. Vote for Hee Yit Foong, she stands up and fights for your rights (with a pepper spray)

2. Vote for Zambry Abdul Kadir,
he is inspired by Gandhi, King and Mandela (and believes himself to be the 3-in-1 Malaysian equivalent)

3. Vote for Sivakumar, he is so dedicated that he can get carried away (by "officials" in plainclothes) while fulfilling his duties as the Speaker of the Perak State Assembly

4. Vote for Ganesan, he can do wonders for you (since he can become Speaker without winning any seat in the state elections)

Do you also know that the May 13 incidents, the Chinese were victimized wrongly?

In truth, before 1969, the malays were in despot state yet Malaysia's economy was vibrant.

Despite the Chinese being more economically prosperous, but in truth they only owned not more than 20% of the nation's equity.

The bulk of the nation's wealth went to Britain as the British still controlled most of our country's wealth, i.e. rubber and tin.

But Umno didn't tell the malays that. Instead, they told the malays that most wealth are going to the Chinese and therefore, the Chinese are making the malays poor.

Umno didn't want to tell the malays that it was Umno who agreed for the British to remain in control of Malaysia's wealth. And that Umno dare not retake the wealth away from the British.

Furthermore, the MCA and MIC didn't help as well as they too benefited from the anti Chinese and anti malay sentiment.

So, when problems cannot be solved and the malays were openly rebelling against Umno, the easiest escape is to blame the Chinese and innocent Chinese blood was spilled for Umno madness.

It is undeniable that malays are stupid, incapable and lazy. Why don't they just humbly admit the facts and repent and learn from other races especially Chinese?

What is the point to argue here and wasting time again?

From the first onwards we were merely telling the truths. It wasn't us who think that way but their own Badawi as well.

All malays should go and read the newspaper, even Badawi is ashamed of maintaining the NEP after 34 years of implementing it and these malay baboons are still asking for it.

Even Badawi wanted them to compete on a level playing field.

So what does all these tell the world? It sends a very clear message that it is malays themselves who are incapable and lazy and they don't even want to admit it and make a change!

That is the biggest shame of all.

Can't you see, it is all back to square one. Year in, year out, some talk for half an hour, some one, some two. Some sing, many belt out their most recent released 'pantun'.

After all. Malays are good at that. Suggestions after suggestions, some good, some impossible to realize.

But, do you see any of these materialised? Hardly. Why, why and why???

Because the malays can never change. Never! Why?

The leaders forgot it or were they simply didn't want to address and admit that the actual disease is the malays and the remedy itself is also, the malays. They can never change. What is it about the malays?

Firstly as you all know, they are a lazy species. Since the beginning of time they have been like that. Even the encyclopedia called them as lazy people. I think those British with their accent tried to call them 'malas', and if you put 'y' in, it becomes 'malays'.

Embracing Islam make them a worse lot. Now they have a license to kill anything that gets into their way.

Malays are ungrateful lot. In reality, they just can't live or open their minds for others. When Mahathir said that they are complacent, they put him in jail. When Mahathir encouraged them to learn English language, they got angry with him, saying it is a 'bahasa penjajah'.

When other races 'maju', they got angry with them too. That was why at the end of Mahathir his regime, he said this, "I have achieved greatness as a prime minister, but I only fail in one thing, changing the malays."

Well, nothing to be surprised about anyway since Mahathir is not really a malay, and I guess that was why the malays were angry with him.

Drug abuse, hate, incest, liberal extremism (culture of miniskirts and gay marriages), murder, parochialism, racism, rape, religious fanaticism, snatch theft, spoilt bratty behavior, tribalism, wife abuse, child abuse, all that is associated with the malay race.

To them, malay is the biggest impediment towards building a truly Malaysian nation, and should be chucked into the dustbins of history.

A genetically flawed race cannot be fixed by politically. Nature will take its course and globalization will put them out to pasture.

What have we got now?

Brain drain, economic disparity getting wider, poor education system, racial segregation, widespread corruption, inefficiency and uncompetitive on the government departments and others.

Sad. Sad. Sad. The question asked by many of my fellow Chinese is this - Why can't you just tell the malay peoples to adopt Chinese culture which is superior?

From research, this peninsular was part of the Siamese empire way before these malays from Indonesia invaded it.

Still so thick skin, don't want to go back to Indonesia!

Now these last two commentaries are what I call hate commentaries intentionally sent in to incite racial hatred among Malaysians by cyber prostitutes.
You fail trolls!!! Sounds like Mahathir's tactics.

Salam brader goodman

you are a malay and you are from umno.

if you are expecting other malays to shout and scream at you and spill their guts and hatred for the chinese, then you are mistaken.

we know who you are and what you are up to.

Anonymous said...

why is it so hard for the chinese to acknowledge that their kind was also part of the riot?

Wikipedia says that Gerakan leader apologized for the procession but it was too late

Apologize for what?

There were racist Chinese chanting racist slogan at that time. Period. Face it. Tun Razak or Harun Idris are no longer here to defend themselves. What coward Kua Kia Soong hurling accusations to dead people.

A blog called Jebat Must Die has been carrying a series of laborious essays that attempt to debunk the veracity and integrity of Kua Kis Soong's book, MAY 13: Declassified Documents on the Malaysian Riots of 1969. I won't go into detail here, but Jebat-Must-Die's arguments closely echo those of Republican apologists who ridicule the 9/11 Truth Movement and dismiss all serious enquiry into the unseen hands behind the 9/11 atrocities as "conspiracy theories." In short, the only contribution JMD makes to the ongoing discussion on whether May 13 was a spontaneous manifestation of interracial tensions - or a ruthless sandiwara (puppet show) aimed at transferring political power from the Umno Old Guard to the Umno New Guard - is his personal conviction that nationalist Malay leaders like Abdul Razak Hussein, Ghazali Shafie, Mahathir Mohamad, et alia, are genuinely "good" people with the long-term well-being of the nation (read race & religion) at heart. Well, that's unadulterated crap. These characters are classic power junkies addicted to their own perverse notions of ketuanan.

Anonymous said...

From what i've heard the rioters were actually Indonesian workers who were transported in busloads from Sepang with parangs concealed under their seats.

The first sign of trouble actually happened at the Chinese theater(Capitol)in Chow Kit sometime late morning/mid-day,when these armed men broke into the cinema and started killing.

Starmandala said...

Anonymous @ 3:58PM - It wouldn't surprise me if what you say is confirmed, though I doubt the May 13 berserkers were ALL imported. The anti-Chinese pogrom unleashed as a cover for Suharto's coup d'etat in 1965 shows that the Javanese aren't squeamish about massacring people of a different skin color. All they need is an order from a high-ranking general to run amok. In fact, their temperament can easily be manipulated just as Pol Pot succeeded in brainwashing and turning young orphans into killing machines for his Zombie Army. Notice how Umno warlords (like Khir Toyo and Syed Hamid Albar) who recently migrated from Java tend to shout "Ketuanan Melayu" the loudest?

Anonymous said...

In this case Harun was Pol Pot's equivalent. After gathering all the goons into his palatial mansion,he and a few others riled them up,and handed them with headbands and parangs(already stashed in a culvert)and they were soon men on a mission:genocide.

The JMD website states that May 69 riots actually started in Setapak and NOT Kg.Baru;is this true? And it started when a posse of UMNO supporters were attacked.

What are your thoughts?

Starmandala said...

Jebat Must Die. The blog name alone tells you it's a Ketuanan Melayu platform. That's the only game these twits know how to play. They refuse to emerge from under their paranoid and xenophobic tempurungs - not even when they get asphyxiated to death by their own toxic exhaust! I wasn't in KL when the violence erupted on 13 May 1969 so I'm no personal authority on the subject. However, blogs like JMD all seem to be grinding the same axe - viz, if only those bloody Commies in DAP would just disappear, there'd be nobody to stop those of pirate lineage from misruling the nation forever...

I found out from wiki that the death toll of chinese is much higher than the malays during the the malays got to kill more chinese and still keep their bloody precious ketuanan melayu till today, this is the biggest shit in malaysian history.
How i wish this land never merdeka. rather let the british governs so that they can continue to fairly guide us and bring the most out of this land.
