PRESENCE OF MIND ~ by Antares

Started off as doggerel poetry salvaged from my late teens, ended up as a quirky song. Recorded on my scenic veranda while my jolly joy boy Ahau was dancing and yelling in front of a Walt Disney cartoon...

Walking down the street
Suddenly you meet
Policeman on the beat
Chairman on the cheat
Don't do it in your seat boy
What you need is...

Presence of mind and
Essence of being
The essence of being
In the presence of mind
Makes you feel so fine

Standing on the hill
Another day at the mill
Shopping for some thrills
Caught with your hand in the till
Let it hang out the window sill boy
You're never alone with...

Presence of mind
And essence of being
The essence of being
In the presence of mind
Makes you feel sublime

Now run to the mirror
Look into your own face
See the error of your terror
You're a living disgrace
Nobody gives you a dime but you don't give a damn for...

Presence of mind
In the essence of being (you're one of the blind)
The essence of being
In the presence of mind
Is a very fine line

Dancing down the line
Looking for some sign
Must be the end of time
Because heaven's on my mind
Well any minute now you'll be getting it
Because everyone is divine...

Presence of mind
Essence of being
The essence of being
In the presence of mind
Makes you feel sublime

Hi Antares,

I came back to your blog again to listen to your 7lifetimes.

Lo and behold - What a treat, my friend...I love this one as well and boy oh boy...you can really scat!!! You have very unusual pitch articulation, coloration, and resonance in your scatting and delivery of this song.

The lyrics are awesome and amazingly, you sound VERY young in this recording.

I am going to ask my boy and his gf to watch these two videos...Makes me want to take out my dusty guitar and to start singing again haha...

Thanks for sharing!!!

*claps*

*encore* more ...MORE...MORE please!!!

hugs

Paula my dear - unusual pitch articulation? Ummm... you mean my pitch isn't properly screwed down? :-) Every time you need a screwdriver there's none around! Just kidding... I really do appreciate your kind feedback. In fact, I had you pretty much in mind when I decided to try taping my practice sessions and see if I could stand the thought of exposing myself on YouTube. There's still some residual shyness when I perform my songs - perhaps because my public performances are so few and far between. So it's truly delightful to hear what YOU have to say, because you're among the few who can analyze and intelligently discuss the technical structure of music and literature :-) I guess singing this 22-year-old song takes me back to my romantic heydays... wait till you hear the very first song I ever wrote (in 1981)... hee hee!

Stop all these now! Ugly face with ugly voice. Another noise pollution. Sigh.....

Khoo (what does NK stand for? Naughty Kid?) - You know, that's exactly what some music critics said about the Beatles, before Leonard Bernstein publicly praised their music by comparing McCartney with Mozart and commenting on the polytonal clusters embedded in their Sgt Pepper's album.
In any case, your poor command of language indicates that you're probably tone deaf (mastery of languages and a musical ear are closely related). Thanks, anyway, for the sobering feedback!

Wow...

Your flatulent sound

pop...
pep...
pop...
pep...

and still have no shame at all to self-proclaimed as beatles alike.

Such a thick face idiot.

Oh no, dear Antares...you were not out of pitch..what I meant to say was that your singing voice in this clip is not like your spoken voice. I came back again to watch it..But seriously, the form of the whole piece is most unusual in that I have never encountered such chord progressions and strumming styles...

OK- one joke as an aside...I must shake my left leg like you when I sing - then my legs can be as slim as yours LOL.

You have my admiration for having the commitment and courage to put these up in youtube and I hope that your talent in singing, music and composing such wonderful pieces can be discovered by a recording company!!!

Thanks for remembering me when you were recording. Also - you were so focused despite the distractions in the background. Fantastic. All the best for your forthcoming gig - will it be in KL? I hope you can do one in Penang say like in Shenanigan's...

Take care and happy singing...oh I also read many of your pieces in Kakiseni. Simply brilliant!!!!

Paula, is the Naughty Kid Khoo your Terrible Twin or something? NK, you have been warned. Vicious personal attacks on the blogowner will boomerang within 24 hours... and after that I shall start deleting your puerile poison-tongue pellets like so much spam. If you're curious what fate awaits you... your breath will smell just like your malevolent comments, and people will refuse to come closer to you than five feet. That's right, you will end up sleeping on five-foot ways. So be it.

Thanks Antares,

very good piece of work for special forces. This clip may be used at terrorists as mental torturing tool.

Well done! Keep it on.
